  • 90,009 EUR gross per year. As per the current terms and conditions (periodically reviewed) additional benefits include a yearly bonus of 13th month's salary, a 14th half month's salary bonus, 30 days of leave and a performance based annual salary increase.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The mission is seeking to fill a Senior Officer position for the EDC program as well as various officer positions that may arise following this selection process. The EDC Senior Officer is responsible for leading/co-leading EDC’s business development efforts in assigned markets in Europe. The incumbent has continual interaction with major local borrowers, bankers, private and public sector officials to discuss new opportunities, potential financial structuring solutions, credit analysis and risk mitigation issues. The incumbent is expected to leverage this extensive network of contacts in order to enhance EDC’s capacity to support key clients and Canadian exporters and investors active in the market. The EDC Senior Officer is also responsible for building and managing the brand image and reputation of EDC in the market and for managing the Corporation’s relationship with the Canadian Government, in respect to markets covered out of Düsseldorf.

The EDC Senior Officer is accountable for the overall business results of EDC for their country portfolio against specified business targets including assigned strategic accounts.

Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Engages with EDC teams to research and identify high-potential prospects, conducts proactive outreach to uncover client needs, generates and follows up on leads, and develops new business opportunities with both current and potential clients;
  • Meets with prospective Canadian clients who seek out EDC locally or are referred to EDC via HQ, Trade Commissioner’s Service, banks, etc.;
  • Understands Canadian capabilities and interests, works with EDC Teams, to ensure resources are well allocated and that opportunities can be matched with EDC appetite and Canadian interest and capability;
  • Leverages local network of contacts to develop new leads for EDC in line with EDC company onboarding requirements;
  • Collaborates with EDC’s Senior Regional Manager and internal teams to develop account strategies and annual Market Coverage Plans, ensuring alignment with client needs through shared insights and deep, ongoing knowledge of client businesses and organizations;
  • Champions customer issues and resolves problems efficiently and effectively;
  • Assists with post-closing customer service as required (example: Asset Management, Loans Admin, Credit Surveillance, interaction with a local EDC customer);
  • Coordinates EDC resources to ensure smooth interaction between underwriters and buyers;
  • Assists underwriters in resolving in-market issues/ information as they arise while building on and leverages internal knowledge and expertise with respect to underwriting issues in the markets of responsibility;
  • Manages the Corporation’s brand image and reputation. Makes local presentations, speeches and conducts media interviews on behalf of EDC in consultation with the EDC Chief Representative and EDC Public Affairs on a regular basis;
  • Represents EDC in trade planning and administration within the local Canadian Missions;
  • Organizes, prepares and executes local EDC sponsored BD events. Also contributes to Canadian events with input on presentations, invitations, budget, etc.;
  • Plans, coordinates and executes EDC Executive outreach trips to region;
  • Helps develop new services/products customized to clients’ needs by providing timely market information to EDC underwriting and COE resources, and/or helps market these and existing services;
  • Manages and maintains contact network with government/local officials; develops understanding of local politics;
  • Develops and updates a local contacts’ database and account developments/contact via EDC CRM system;
  • Responsible to establish and operate within budgets;
  • Ensures that key market information contained on the EDC Country Portal is maintained;
  • Performs other duties as required upon request.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

All essential qualifications will be assessed. Methods of assessments and screening of candidates may include but are not limited to: verification of credentials, resume and letters of presentation; interviews, exams and practical tests; presentations or other types of assessments.

Education
This position requires:

  • A successfully completed university degree (Bachelor or higher) from a legally recognized university in a field related to the position available (may include international relations, finance, international commerce, political science, business administration, marketing, etc.);

OR

  • An equivalent* combination of education, training and work experience related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position available, including but not limited to business or economics.

*Equivalent refers to a combination of a successfully completed diploma in any field or other relevant education ("Ausbildung") with training, and additional experience in the fields of international relations, finance, international commerce, political science, business administration or marketing.

Language
The Following languages and proficiency levels are required for this job. Candidates will be formally assessed or requested to provide proof of certification on these levels.

  • An advanced proficiency level (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking) in English.
  • An advanced proficiency level (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking) in German.

Experience
In order to perform the duties relevant to this job, the following experience is required.

  • A minimum of 5 years of recent* and relevant experience in a business development role in the fields of international or trade financing, international business, corporate banking or similar.

*Recent is defined as within the last 7 years

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • Knowledge of underwriting practices, familiarity with common financing structures

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Operational requirements will be assessed on a "meet/does not meet" basis and can be used to determine right fit of a candidate for the position.

  • Hours and location of work: Regular hours of work for this position are in accordance with Locally-Engaged Staff regulations of 37.5 hours per week in person at the Consulate of Canada in Düsseldorf.
  • Overtime: Willingness to work overtime on short notice.
  • Travel: This position may require travel throughout Germany and possibly include limited occasional travel internationally.

  • Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
  • Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada.
